Frequently Asked Questions
Training Q: Where/when can I take my Annual Laboratory/Clinic Safety Training? A: Annual safety training is offered online anytime or as a live session every other month in Cori auditorium (alternating between laboratory and clinic). Information on the schedule and links to the online training can be found at: http://ehs.wustl.edu/training/training.htm Q: I took the online training but forgot to print my certificate. What should I do? A: You can print out your training history here: http://aladdin.wustl.edu/Facilities/ehstraincpy.nsf/Viewlookup?OpenForm. You will need to enter your Employee ID to access your training history. Q: I would like the staff in my Lab/Clinic to refresh their safety training as a group. What options are available to us? A: It is possible to schedule a live departmental training session, as well as coordinated group online trainings. Please call 935-9879 for details. Q: Washington University employee ID numbers are required to register for live trainings and to sign in to online trainings. However, I am a student/volunteer/intern. How do I obtain this number? A: Please send an email to Johnsoel@wusm.wustl.edu with your name, department, and position information. EH&S can assign you a temporary ID number to sign into and track your training.
Shipping Infectious Materials Q: What type of shipping training do I need? A: If you work in a research laboratory, you must take the Category A&B shipping training. If you work in a clinical research laboratory, you can take either the Category A&B or Category B only shipping training. Q: Where can I get shipping boxes or stickers? A: EH&S has a small number of boxes and stickers available in CSRB 2231. EH&S charges for shipping boxes but not for stickers. If you need more than 1-2 boxes, you will need to order them from SafTPak (http://www.saftpak.com/) or another vendor.
Research Protocols Q: Do I need to submit a Recombinant DNA and Hazardous Research Materials protocol? A: You need to submit a protocol if you use any of the following materials: recombinant DNA, human cell lines, viral vectors, pathogenic microorganisms, and hazardous chemicals administered to cell lines or animals. Q: Are immortal/established human cell lines covered by OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard? A: Yes, unless the cell line has been characterized to be free of human pathogens. The letter of interpretation from OSHA can be found here: http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=INTERPRETATIONS&p_id=21519
